Gertrude the Albino Frog and Her Friend Rupert the Turtle, a new children's book featured on PBS and NPR, has hopped into town. Not only is this book about health, respect, diversity and tolerance, but the profits are going to worldwide children's charities.

"Gertrude will hop right into your heart," writes Rita Mae Brown, renowned local author. "A beautifully written and illustrated book that will capture the interest of all children and the hearts of all adults," states Manfred Korman, field director for the supervisors union for principals of New York City.

With issues of bullying and tolerance being introduced in every school system, Gertrude the Albino Frog and Her Friend Rupert the Turtle is an excellent teaching tool. Readers will understand concepts of fitting in, acceptance and special forever friendships through this beautifully illustrated book. Schools are using this book for diversity training and Special Olympics of Virginia has also promoted Gertrude the Albino Frog. In 2006 Marcia worked with playwright Tim White to turn Gertrude the Albino Frog into a musical with music composed by Kevin White. The musical is currently being performed by older children for younger children.

Author Marcia Silvermetz, a Charlottesville resident since 1980, has a basic principle when writing and publishing with her company Hiccup Cottage Publications.

"The mission of the publishing company is a commitment to health, well-being and fitness of children in need. Percentages of all books will be donated directly to organizations designed to endow children of diverse and exceptional backgrounds to excel in all aspects of wellness; including physical, mental and spiritual health, and literacy." Marcia adds that the ultimate long-term goal of Hiccup Cottage Publications is to have public playgrounds specifically designed for challenged children, though accessible to non-challenged children, across the USA and beyond.
